The vet told me Daisy is a male cat.
What???!!!!!!
She showed me where her (his) testicles used to be. They were removed so completely that no one - including three prior visits to other vets - noticed Daisy is a male. I was told Daisy was a female by Jan, whom I got Daisy from. Maybe I should have had a suspicion as Jan's current cat is named, Myrtle May, and is a male cat. He got the name when Jan thought the cat was a female. With Jan's cat, who has been neutered, one can see a bump where his testicles were located. No bump on Daisy.
I'm in shock. Here I thought Daisy was a strong, independent, bad-ass female, and here she is a male.
I'm still going to call her (him) Daisy. And mostly likely will use the feminine pronouns for a while as I thought Daisy was a female for five and three quarter years.
The vet found Daisy had two abscesses on her right ear. One outside and the other inside. Most likely from another cat's bite. The vet cut and drained the abscesses and gave her an anti-biotic shot. She also got a deworming pill as Daisy spends most of her time outside. Because she had a 103 fever no further shots, like distemper. We go back in two weeks for those. They also did blood work and checked her kidney. Everything is normal. Her protein level is a bit high, but that most likely is due to the fever. And Daisy is missing a tooth.
While not there yet, Daisy is getting back to her normal self.
This morning before the vet visit I found Daisy sitting on a pile of logs. I had to climb up there to get her as she had no interest in moving.

Well! I bet that was SOME surprise! I'll have a hard time not thinking of her as her myself after all this time--and I don't even really know her! Eh, its 2018 and it seems people are pretty loose about this sorta thing...so go with whatever pronoun you like. I doubt Daisy minds. :) I hope is back to full strength and her usual independent personality.
Yes, it was a major surprise. I was so shocked the vet insisted on showing me Daisy was a boy.
Daisy is under the weather today. Yesterday I took her/him to the vet for a checkup. And for distemper and leukemia shots as she couldn't have them earlier as she had a fever. I think the shots are why Daisy is taking it easy today. Otherwise Daisy recovered fine from her injuries. And from the scratches on her other ear from a fight about a week ago. One neighbor got a new younger cat and that place is/was part of Daisy's territory.
