Helping collecting walnuts

When I picked walnuts from my tree the past few days Rascal helped me each day.  Well... actually he supervised.

Job done.

And his tail.. when he walks he almost always stands it up straight with just the tip of it curled.

Helping with re-fencing some trees

Last week I started re-fencing some small evergreen trees in the NE pasture before I let some cows into the pasture.  (https://tallpinesranch.blogspot.com/2021/10/re-fencing-some-pasture-trees.html)

Rascal "helped" me when I did the work last week.

Sitting in a tree

I'm working on a fence rebuild.  Rascal has joined me and sits nearby.  Here he climbed the tree and sat there watching me, and watching for birds.

I am thinking about the Cheshire cat from "Alice in Wonderland", and also, for some reason, of Garfield.

Helping with tree stump work

Last week I worked on removing some ground level side roots on a tree stump in the front yard.

Rascal came out to "help" me.  It was hard to get a decent photo as he kept moving around.

Helping dig around tree stump 6

Daisy 'helped' me while I dug around tree stump number 6 out in the middle pasture.

Work done for the day.  Walking back home through the hayfield.

Helping dig several tree stumps

This Spring I dug around a number of tree stumps to either dig them out of the ground or else prepare them for a later bonfire burn.  A few times Daisy came out to 'help' me.

Sitting next to the wheelbarrow.

Yet another stump.   It is getting late.   Time to go home.

Helping check fruit trees

When I was checking the blossoms on my fruit trees, Daisy helped me.

Coming down after checking an apple tree for blossoms.

"Nope, no blossoms on this apple tree."

After checking the fruit trees Daisy decided to check out the rhubarb to see how they are doing.

Working on tree stump 5

Today was a cool and rainy day.   Daisy and I mainly slept much of the day.

Last week Daisy accompanied me when I dug partway around another tree stump out in the pasture.

Helping protect the trees

Each evening when I worked on protecting the trees in the NE pasture Daisy would join me.

Chilling out as I work on a tree.

Watching the neighbor's four little yappy dogs in the yard on the other side of the fence.

Once the dogs went back in the house Daisy worked her way across the fence.  Initially I told her "No, don't cross the fence." and she listened to me.  After a little bit she wandered down the fence line and disappeared.  Later she turned up here (see photo below) on the neighbor's lawn.  Over here Daisy didn't have to deal with the horses.

One afternoon as I worked on another tree Daisy decided to check out the neighbor's back deck.  Their door was open and their screen door was full length.  Daisy laid around several spots on the deck in open view of the door.  She was there a good fifteen to twenty minutes before a dog noticed and started barking.  Daisy then came back across the fence to be closer to me.

Daisy was pretty cool with the horses being nearby.  One time Lily (the dark horse on the right side) decided she wanted to do more than eat grass right next to Daisy.  She tried to sniff Daisy but Daisy got up and moved a few feet away.  Lily ate a few more bites of grass than moved towards Daisy again.  This time Daisy moved a yard away.  When Lily moved over to Daisy a third time Daisy had enough and walked off.

Daisy caught a small mouse in the tall grass on the other side of the fence and brought it back closer to me.

Up a tree with ants

The people who own the horses stopped by today with their dog.  After a while Daisy came from around the railroad ties next to the corral.  Daisy came walking to me and then walked by the dog.

Everything was fine until Daisy continued walking and walked away.  The dog started to follow and Daisy turned around and hissed and then began to run.  The dog chased Daisy.  The dog did not listen to the owners calling him back.  Daisy ran high up the large tree by the patio .

After the owners left with their dog I had to use the extension ladder fully extended to climb up the tree and get Daisy down.  Daisy was nervous about the dog still being here.

Here is a 28 second video of Daisy in the tree.  Notice the ants crawling on her legs.

Horses, dog and a tree

The afternoon started off lazy for Daisy due to the heat.  She did a lot of laying around with her eyes open. Not tired for sleeping; too warm to do anything.

The lazy day changed in the afternoon when the couple brought a new horse (Sierra) to replace Cowgirl.  They also brought their dog, Pistol.  I thought Daisy was sleeping in the garage when she showed up all of a sudden.  She came towards the dog and none of us knew what to do.  Even the dog didn't know what to do as it just stood there.

Then Daisy walked past the dog to go to the corral where I was.  When the dog started to follow Daisy she didn't like it as you can see in the photo below where Daisy told the dog to back off.  She then ran off towards the horse trailer while the dog remained here.

Once we got the horses swapped in the corral and the owners left with Cowgirl I walked to the house.  I heard meowing which I discovered to be from up one of the huge box elder trees over the patio.  I wonder if Daisy ran up the tree to get away from the dog?

I had to get an extension ladder to get Daisy down from the tree.  She allowed me to lift her from the tree and carry her down the ladder.  Once I was on the ground Daisy jumped from me to the ground rather than let me lower her to the ground.
