Walking on the roof in the snow

Yesterday I wrote about falling off my house roof.   https://tallpinesranch.blogspot.com/2025/02/fell-from-house-roof-im-alive.html

I'm doing better today. Sometimes I feel worse the second day, but not this time.  But I am still stiff and sore and moving slower.  After my skull fracture five years ago I was down to 8 lives left.  I guess I am now down to 7 lives left.

I had mentioned clearing some of the snow off earlier (about a week ago).  When I cleared the snow off earlier this is what I found on the roof.  Since the fight with the neighbor's cat over a month ago Rascal doesn't care to go outside.   One of the few times he was outside he must of went up here.  In the past I knew Rascal could climb up the shrub on the left side of the first photo.  But I didn't know he could climb up the other shrub on the right side of the last photo.

On the house roof

In the past Daisy figured out how to climb up and down the shrub/tree just south of the house.  And often he would spend time sitting on the house roof overseeing his kingdom in the evening.  Well... now Rascal has figured out how to climb the shrub/tree branches to get up and down from the house roof.   This evening I found him on the roof two times.   The second time I got my camera and took a few quick photos before he climbed down from the roof.

I'm glad Rascal has now figured out how to get on the house roof.  Last night when Rascal was outside, and on the ground, I heard coyotes howling/barking.  They weren't nearby, but sounded closer than I liked.  Rascal zoomed inside the house when I opened the door.  I didn't hear any coyotes tonight.

On the roof, and Daisy's eye

Daisy is feeling better.  So much that most evenings after dark she wants to go outside.  I don't let her as she is still recovering.  So for an hour or two she complains to me and asks me to let her outside.  However during the day I am letting her outside when I can accompany her.  In the beginning we sat somewhere for twenty minutes or so as Daisy sniffed, listened and tried to look around, then went back into the house.  The past few days she is walking around the house a little. Today we went outside in the morning and again just before sundown.  Before sundown she then wanted to explore the yard and a few times I had to pick her up to stop her from going into the stack of boards or when she tried to leave the yard to go into the NE pasture.  She is now grumbling to complain when I pick her up when she wants to go somewhere.

This morning Daisy decided she wanted to climb the shrub /tree by the house.  In the past she figured out how to climb this shrub/tree to get up on the house roof.  Today with her cone on her head I didn't think she would get far.  She still figured out how to get around some branches with her cone and get up on the house roof, which still has lots of snow on it.

She spent a little time looking out at the world.  After it began to rain lightly she wanted down.  Getting down is now harder than climbing up.  Before she had no problem in getting down off the house roof.  With the cone it might have been too hard.  After getting into the shrub/tree as seen below, she couldn't turn and get further down. She went back on the house roof.  I got a ladder and carried her down even though she doesn't like to be carried.

After we came back into the house I took photos of how her eye looks currently.

More roof action

82 inches of snow so far this Winter.  14 inches base left on the ground.  Lots more snow predicted through Friday.

Daisy is getting restless and tired of Winter and snow.   Now that the house roof is mostly free of snow she often goes up there to watch over her kingdom as the snow is making it difficult to get around.

A few photos from this morning.  Earlier she was laying here and dangling one paw off the roof at me.  When I went to get the camera she moved to this position.

On the house roof

As a Christmas gift Donna gave me a roof rake for clearing snow.  It is very useful this year with all the snow we have received.  I used it to clear snow off of some roofs.

Daisy appreciates this as now she can get back upon the house roof to survey her kingdom.   This morning I found her on the house roof when she greeted me after I came back from a short bicycle ride.

On the roof

Daisy seems to spend part of each day (or night!) up on the house roof.  Sometimes when she is up there it starts to rain.  Like this morning for example. (She was a wet kitty.)  She is getting better at letting me reach up and lift her down at the one spot I can do so.  So much so that at times she seems to prefer that way to get down rather than climb back down the shrub in front of the house.

This morning Dan stopped by to visit and see the cattle.  Daisy followed right along.  On the fence when she could.  Across the mud and manure when she had to.

Up on the roof, and music

Last night when I called for Daisy to come back inside the house, after a few minutes, I heard tromping on the house roof.  Yup, "The Dazer" was up there.  To top it off a light freezing rain was happening.  Of course she played "peek-a-boo" and wouldn't let me grab her to lift her off the roof.  She later found her way back down.

Crazy cat.

Some of Daisy's tracks are left of the sewer vent pipe coming out of the roof.

Earlier in the week, in the discard area at the library, the library discarded a number of old CDs. I found a dozen artists I liked, or looked interesting.   Today I dug out and hooked up my CD player.  I've only had it boxed up in the basement every since I moved here back in 2001.

Tonight Daisy snagged my computer chair (naturally) as I was about to work on the computer.  I played CDs for music.  The first album was Timeless, some jazzy blues by Clarence Gatemouth Brown.

Then when the classic Cocteau Twins album, Treasure, came on, Daisy sat upright in the chair and intently looked around.  The dream pop of the Cocteau Twins is much different than the blues.  After a bit Daisy settled back down in the chair.  Good, as I love the Cocteau Twins' music.

"Ivo" was the song that intrigued Daisy:

Daisy now has come up to the computer.  Below is some of what she just typed:

I guess that means it is time to post this to her blog.

On the roof again

When the weather is nice Daisy likes to go up on the house roof.  If she is on the roof and we come outside the house she certainly lets us know she is up there.  Some times I reach up and get her down and some times I let her be as she knows how to get down herself.

Cat on the roof

When I came back to the house from working in the corral I found Daisy on the house roof.  Tammy said she had let Daisy out of the house only 10 minutes earlier.  I think she must have climbed one of the ornamental trees next to the house and then got on the house roof.  She had been in the trees and bushes in front of the house several times Friday in a futile attempt to get at the birds.

Here Tammy took a couple photos of Daisy.

Here Daisy is play acting as Godzilla.  The large willow tree look puny next to "Daisy-zilla"!

"No photos please!"  Ever the camera shy kitty!

Here is a 51 second video of Daisy on the roof:

Eventually I had to get a ladder to get Daisy off the roof.  Once I climbed the ladder she came over to me and let me carry her down to the ground.  Then it was off to her next adventure which again involved me getting the ladder.  More on that later.
