Belly and routine

This afternoon after a session of "snuggie kneading" Daisy fell asleep looking like this.

Daisy's belly is getting bigger.

Daisy's routine is to wake me up between 5 am and 5:30 am so she can go outside.  Between 8 am and 9 am she wants in and out of the house several times waking me up each time as I am still sleeping.  If I don't come to the front door when she meows she will come to the back door.  If I don't come to the back door she sits outside the bedroom window and meows.

Then between 9 and 10 am Daisy settles down to sleep.  She sleeps most of the day until 5 pm to 7 pm to avoid the heat.  Then she goes outside for a few hours and often comes inside around 10 pm.  Some days I work until dark, and with Tammy working her Tastefully Simple business until 9 pm at the local Fair this week, Daisy doesn't get out until 9 pm.  Last night she didn't come in when called for and I had to go find her after 11 pm.  Tonight she is grounded from going out after 9 pm and she was not happy about that.  Lots of meowing and pouting by the door.

Welcome Home present

The morning Tammy left for Minnesota Daisy left her a parting gift of a mouse.  Monday morning, the first morning since Tammy got back Sunday night, Daisy got up early to go hunting and then left a welcome home gift of a shrew outside the front door.

In the afternoon, during the baby horse commotion, Daisy hung out in the sink while I, the horse owners and their dog got the horse situation taken care of.

In the evening Daisy and Tammy were back to playing tag and catch the ball.

Helping protect the trees

Each evening when I worked on protecting the trees in the NE pasture Daisy would join me.

Chilling out as I work on a tree.

Watching the neighbor's four little yappy dogs in the yard on the other side of the fence.

Once the dogs went back in the house Daisy worked her way across the fence.  Initially I told her "No, don't cross the fence." and she listened to me.  After a little bit she wandered down the fence line and disappeared.  Later she turned up here (see photo below) on the neighbor's lawn.  Over here Daisy didn't have to deal with the horses.

One afternoon as I worked on another tree Daisy decided to check out the neighbor's back deck.  Their door was open and their screen door was full length.  Daisy laid around several spots on the deck in open view of the door.  She was there a good fifteen to twenty minutes before a dog noticed and started barking.  Daisy then came back across the fence to be closer to me.

Daisy was pretty cool with the horses being nearby.  One time Lily (the dark horse on the right side) decided she wanted to do more than eat grass right next to Daisy.  She tried to sniff Daisy but Daisy got up and moved a few feet away.  Lily ate a few more bites of grass than moved towards Daisy again.  This time Daisy moved a yard away.  When Lily moved over to Daisy a third time Daisy had enough and walked off.

Daisy caught a small mouse in the tall grass on the other side of the fence and brought it back closer to me.

Here is a 58 second video of Daisy and the mouse.

Scratched nose

Sunday afternoon Daisy showed up with a scratch on her nose.  I have no idea how she got her nose scratched.  I hope the scratch doesn't leave a scar.

Poor Daisy.

When Baby was crazy in heat

Daisy didn't know what to make of Baby's crazy-in-heat behavior.   Daisy laid on the woodpile.  She was in and out of the barn several times.  She was around the railroad ties.  Daisy wanted to lay down and rest but there were too many crazy going-ons that had to be monitored.

Up a tree with ants

The people who own the horses stopped by today with their dog.  After a while Daisy came from around the railroad ties next to the corral.  Daisy came walking to me and then walked by the dog.

Everything was fine until Daisy continued walking and walked away.  The dog started to follow and Daisy turned around and hissed and then began to run.  The dog chased Daisy.  The dog did not listen to the owners calling him back.  Daisy ran high up the large tree by the patio .

After the owners left with their dog I had to use the extension ladder fully extended to climb up the tree and get Daisy down.  Daisy was nervous about the dog still being here.

Here is a 28 second video of Daisy in the tree.  Notice the ants crawling on her legs.

Rainy day snooze

It started raining before 2 am and has rained all day.

Hooray!

It hasn't rained in almost a month at the ranch.  The grass in the yard and some of the pastures was yellow and brown and had gone dormant. The hayfield was a mixture of green and yellow.  The ground was dirty and dusty and rock hard.

So what if the rain and cool temperatures kept me and Daisy inside all day.  We really needed the rain.

Tammy is in Minnesota to see family and go to a business convention.  Daisy slept in her spot on the loveseat part of the day.

Hey!  I'm trying to sleep here!

Early morning dead mouse

Daisy caught her 30th (that I know of!) mouse of the year.   Tammy saw this sight when she got up early Wednesday morning.  Daisy left the mouse next to her play ball in front of the refridgerator.
