Rainy day blues

It wasn't raining when Daisy went outside at 4 am, but then it pretty much rained all day.  Daisy finally returned after noon.  She had given up waiting for the rain to stop.  She was wet when she came inside the house.  She made a different kind of meow / moan when she came in and walked to her food dish.  It sounded like she was disgusted by the cold wet weather.

While Daisy did go outside a few times to check on the weather or to drink from the rain gutter downspout, for the most part she laid either by the wood stove or on my lap.

Won't this rain ever quit?!

Toolshed roof and vent

When I was on the tool shed roof preparing it for re-shingling Daisy got up on the roof - without using the ladder - to join me.  She climbs a fence post, then from the top of the post jumps onto the roof.  To get off the roof she jumps from the roof back to the top of the fence post, then climbs down the post.  I'll try to get a photo later showing how far the post is from the roof.

Most times I am up on the roof working Daisy comes up to join me. Thursday she came up after I installed the new roof vent.

Crossing the road

Tuesday I learned Jan's cat - Jade (or JD) - was struck and killed over the weekend.  She was found on the side of the road across from their house.

I've noticed Daisy is leery about the road and vehicles, but early one morning Donna saw Daisy cross the road back to the ranch. I don't think there are any, or many, mice nearby on the ranch so Daisy is expanding her hunting range.  And one night I found cockle-burs in her fur - and I got rid of all those weeds on the ranch.  Across the road those weeds exist, so when removing the cockle-burs from her fur I had a talk with Daisy about not crossing the road.

Greased lightning

The other day when moving about on the front porch I tripped on a bag of apples or pears for the calves.  Daisy was nearby as we were just coming out of the house.  Daisy was startled by the noise and commotion and ran.  However I have a number of bags on the porch and Daisy ran into my bicycle and tipped it over to the ground.  In doing so she ran into the bicycle's chain.  Yup.  She got  lots of grease from the chain on her front legs.

She was skittish and I couldn't wipe it off.  She has been working on cleaning herself.  This is how she looked today having got much of it off.  She wouldn't pose when standing so I couldn't get the best photo of her geased legs.

Somersault on apples

Daisy likes to do somersaults at my feet.  Here she somersaulted onto of a bag of apples.

I think Daisy was looking for mice at the neighbor's place.  She came home with orange on her legs and belly.  It took a few days for her to wash it off.  (The photo didn't capture the full effect of the orange color).

Once again today Daisy was busy following me around while I moved irrigation pipes.

In the first two photos Daisy is waiting for me to get ready.

Partway through moving the pipes I had to take a break while Daisy rolled around my feet.  With the dry dead grass she gets dirty.

Here Daisy is waiting by the next sprinkler pipe to be moved.   As I moved each pipe she would walk over to the end of the next pipe to be moved and wait for me.

Here Daisy is laying just out of range of the sprinkler water.  She laid here while I worked on the balky sprinkler head.

Tuckered out

Daisy has been busy the past few mornings accompanying me when I moved irrigation pipes.  The distance we cover is getting more each day. She was shaking the water off her feet after walking across puddles draining from pipes as I moved them.

Today she ate a little bit when we got done then crashed and soon was sleeping hard.
