Owl

Monday evening Daisy followed me out to the middle pasture when I went to plant the two dogwood trees I had bought at the nursery sale.

After I had planted the first dogwood tree and was walking to the site for the second tree in the south pasture an owl flew to a tree to the north followed by two smaller birds harassing the owl.   As Daisy and I reached the very tall long needled pine tree the owl glided over to this tree and sat in a branch partway up on the north side of the tree.  Usually the owls fly away from trees I walk near.  I got a great view of the owl but unfortunately did not have my camera with me.

The owl was huge.  It looked at me and looked over at Daisy.  As Daisy approached the tree she looked up at the owl.  I'm not sure who was 'hunting' who.

As I continued south I called for Daisy.   She was sniffing around where the owl usually regurgitates its 'mouse balls'.  Then Daisy started to follow me.  I continued walking.

Suddenly I heard something and turned around.  The owl had glided down and tried to get Daisy but Daisy crouched down flat on the ground.  I turned to see the owl starting back up on its arc.  The owl flew up to another tall tree.

What a close call!

I had Daisy stay close to me until I planted the second dogwood tree in the south pasture.  I think the owl stayed in the trees in the middle pasture as it no longer bothered me or Daisy.
